Humanistic Psychology

Hello

Hello, I am a senior in highschool, and for our computers class we are supposed to make an edjucational web page. I plan on going to school next year to be a psychologist so I decided to dedicate my site to one of my favioret subjects, Psychology. I beleive in the humanistic approach to psychology, so that is what most of the things in my web page will cover. In the next couple of pages you can find quizes, information on psychology and the humanistic approach, various psychological disorders and information on them, as well as treatments. There is also a place for anyone who wants to e-mail me with any questions to do so, and I will answer as many as I can, as best as I can on the updated web page the next week. I will try my best to update my site every week, so feel free to look through everything and have fun!

Psychology
Psychology is defined by Bernstein, Roy, Srull, and Wickens as the science o behavior and mental processes. There are many different theories which sorround psychology, but the theory that I beleive in the most is the Humanistic Approach. The Humanistic Approach is based on the idea that we all have the ability to choose between right and wrong, and with a little guidance we can all reach our personal goals and potential. Founders of this approach beleive that we can all grow and improve to fit our own perceptions.

Maslows Heirchy Of Needs
The great theorist Abraham Maslow made up a series of steps that all people must go through to reach their own potential. All people must first acheive the basic needs to live such as food, water, and shelter. Once they have fully developed with that area, they will need to feel safe and secure in their enviornment in order to advance to the next step of the heirchy. The next step is the one that most people get stuck on. To love, and be loved and the need for belongingness and freindship is the next step to be overcome on the heirchy. Once a peson can both give and experience love freely they will begin to feel equal to everyone, and their self esteeem will boost. Once all these steps are out of the way, a person will reach self actualization. A person has then reached their full potential and are at peace with the world. All people go up and down through the cycle depending on the events of their life.
